The art world as we know it is in crisis and traditional organizational frameworks require re-evaluation. Rural arts organizations, historically receiving only about 18% of arts and philanthropic funding, have developed alternative administrative strategies out of necessity—strategies that may serve as blueprints in a time when conventional arts institutions face increasing instability.  My research proposes a shift: from viewing rural organizations as peripheral to recognizing them as central to conversations about sustainability, innovation, and equity in the arts.
